After missing the 07 and 08 Scottish Traditional Boat Festivals at Portsoy due to family circumstances we returned this year with great anticipation – and were not disappointed. I thought it bigger and better than ever. And the sun shone, perhaps a little too strongly on the Thursday but, hey, who’s complaining?

Hi Chris,
Thank you for contacting me about the Iain Oughtred Clan gathering I want to organize in spring 2010 in Holland.
Please be so kind to tell anybody, even Iain himself.
I have a small boatbuildingschool here in the west of Holland and I am keen on building Iains Designs for a while now. I even started building the Caladonian Yawl (+10%) for myself now.
I will let all of you know when and where it will be; as for now: I am thinking about the 17th and 18th of april 2010.
We will have a nice woodenboatshow in the first weekend of november and before that ends I will be sure about the place and time. At the moment I have about 12 – 14 boats that will attent the gathering.
We will keep in touch.
Best Regards
Bert

Hello Chris,
“the Drop dead gorgeous – Acorn Skiff” is my boat. Thanks for describing it with such a nice compliment. I built it at The Boat Building Academy in Lyme Regis, Dorset with my mate Jerry. We finished it in Mid June and I brought it up to Port Soy and then went over to the West Coast with it. Its actually a Whitehall pulling skiff built from plans in John Gardner’s book Building Classic Small Craft. I’m now looking for work in the boat building industry – no luck so far but I’ll keep trying. You can see some more photos of the boat here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/11220749@N06/
Cheers for now glad you enjoyed photographing her!
Johnny.

Hi Johnny,
Thanks for the clarification, looking at the snaps later I realised that the transom was subtly different and my obsession with Iain O boats was leading me astray – a lovely build and a delight to see out on the water on the Saturday afternoon. I wish you good fortune in your search for employment doing what you so obviously do well. Thanks for the headsup to the launch / build snaps, v nice, you certainly get around!
Cheers
Chris
