‘Scotch Mist’ is an Iain Oughtred designed MacGregor sailing canoe built in the 13′8″ configuration. I chose this design because I was trying to create something that harked back to the golden age of canoe sailing – the tail end of the 19th century. In the fulness of time I intend to write up the build story here.
I am frequently asked about the sails – they were made by my good friend, Gordon Allison, of Inverness
The build snaps are here

Dear Chris
Love what you did with Scotch Mist. I have bought a nearly complete Mcgregor. Where did you source the rudder pintles/gudgeons or did you make ‘em?

Hi Charlie,
Thanks for the kind words. The rudder pintles are Holt Optomist, one each long and short, got mine from http://shop.trident-uk.com/sailing/product-Optimast_Rudder_Pintles___Long-JHHA4417L.html. The stem fittings are heavy gauge brass wrapped round some 8mm brass rod bored out 6mm (I think – without extracting SM from the weeds that surround her and measuring I can’t be certain) and all soft soldered together. Probably not good practice but with Beale a week away and the ordered bling nowhere to be seen I had to do something fast. You might want to contact Classic Marine – Jonathan of Sailsaltsawdust.blogspot.com has just had a set from them so it looks as though they are now available. And very pretty they look too.
Good luck with the Mac – would be interested in your leeboard arrangement.
