UK Boaty events with a home brewed flavour
I am constantly forgetting links to Boating happenings that I am interested in popping along to. So I thought if I put them all in one place I would be able to find them easily, they might also be usefull for others of a similar inclination. If I can organise myself enough I will knock them off as their dates pass and add new ones as they come to my attention. If there is no link in the event text then I haven’t found one yet – if you know of one please point it out so it may be included for the benefit of all.
If I have missed something that you think should be on the list please let me know – if it’s not the sort of thing I would go to it won’t get listed though!
29th - 31st May 2010 – UK HOME-BUILT BOAT RALLY meet at Barton Turf in Norfolk. General messabout with homebuilt boats with a BBQ on the Saturday evening and a cruise in company for a Pub Lunch on the Sunday. Camping available on site. Probably highlight of the HBBR year for Spineless boaters like me and a brilliant warm up for
4th – 6th June 2010 – The Beale Park Thames Boat Show. If you are into Homebuilt Boating this is the must go event of the year. – For me it is the annual pilgrimage to pay homage at the shrine of Varnishing, Henwood & Dean.
26th -27th June 2010 - The Scottish Traditional Boat Festival. Great event for all the family, 2009 was superb – the weather was brilliant (unless you were trying to sail) so 2010 will probably revert to driech. With luck there may be an appearance of the new St Ayles Skiff designed by Iain Oughtred for the Scottish Coastal Rowing Project as Portsoy is one of the many communities to have expressed an interest in joining in.
17th /18th July 2010, the Thames Traditional Boat Rally - this is one I have always yearned to visit but always seem to be in the wrong place, the one year I was in the South at the right time it was washed out by the weather. A must visit for vanishoholics like me.

Good news! HBBR Barton Meet has now reserved the Spring Bank Holiday weekend; that’s 29 – 31 May 2010! So you can go!
